During the course, students will be introduced to analytical frameworks targeted at describing, discussing and explaining mechanisms in environmental governance and policy implementation, with focus on the political system and relevant sectors of society. Theories and approaches are presented and discussed to give students with a mixed scientific background an understanding of important factors, which influence policy formulation and implementation. Through working with cases of environmental governance and virtual learning tools in and between classes, the students apply the theories and frameworks introduced. Theoretical perspectives include policy making processes, agenda setting, policy instruments, environmental behavior, power, interest representation, policy integration, multilevel governance, practice, participation, environmental economic frameworks of valuation, cost-benefit and cost-effectiveness analyses, and multi-criteria evaluation.
